THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF THE ATHIENOU COMMUNITY SEWAGE TREATMENT
The inauguration ceremony of the Athienou Community Sewage treatment took place on Friday 16th of June 2017. The official opening of the plant was made by the President of the republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Nicos Kouyialis, the mayor of Athienou Municipality Mr. Kyriacos Kareklas and other officials.
The Design & Build part of the project is co-financed by the cohesion fund of the EU and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus with an approximate investment cost of Ten Million Euro. The Twenty year Operation & Maintenance part part of the Project, will be financed by the Sewerage Board of Athienou with an approximate investment cost of Three Million Euro.
The system comprises of the sewage network and pumping station within the community that deliver wastewater to the treatment facilities that is also part of the project. The modern sewage treatment plant includes primary, secondary and tertiary treatment stages and a long term irrigation storage lagoon and a 3.5 km final effluent irrigation system.
